While watching the movie "The Shadow" starring Alec Baldwin. I watched that 'on call' taxi of his driven by Peter Boyle. I thought since there was a 1/25 scale Cord available out there I figured "How hard could it be !" Boy what a job this is turning out to be. I went on ebay and got a vintage 1955 release version by Pyro for about $2.50 (built) and then I got a late issue Linberg kit. The Lindberg kit has but a few minor changes to the original kit. It added a chrome tree, so at least you get chrome hub caps and bumpers. Plus some vinyl tires. I put away the vintage plastic which is the oldest 25th scale I have and to my knowledge the oldest made. That series included a '48 Lincoln, Auburn etc. I based this build mostly on still shots borrowed from the movie (that took a while to figure out) and some wed shots of Beverlys and Westchesters. I also am using a photo of a Graham Hollywood since it's the same sheet metal except for the cowl forward. BTW the same is true for the Hupmobile. I've figure pixel to model ratios to calculate my measurements. This isn't hard, it's about 8th grade math. I stretched the body and frame 27mm and I'm using a '40 Ford coupe for the roof. I have all the photos relating to this project at my photo gallery my.inbox.com/photos/sifferdAttachments:

Here's the math. I converted the Beverly Custom wheelbase to 1/25 scale model millimeters. I like millimeters for modeling. The Beverly Custom has the extended wheelbase of 132inches. To convert reference inches to 1/25 scale you can convert 132x25.4=3352.8mm and divide by the scale of 25. That's 134mm. I have memorized 25.4/25=1.016 so I can multiply any reference measurement times 1.016 and get model millimeters. Anyway that's how I got the 134mm for the wheelbase. In a graphics program it's easy to take a measurement and it displayed in pixels. I took the model distance 134mm and divide by the pixel distance of 456 and get the photo to model ratio of 0.2938 I measure the window height of 43 pixels time the photo ratio of 0.2938 and come up with a 13mm window opening. It becomes second nature after a few times. Sorry for the wordy explanation. Bob Attachments:

Thank you for the break down on the conversion. Anything smaller than a 1/32nd of an inch throws me off, and i am not up on the metric system LOL. I will put this to good use.

I here that all the time and I'm curious how you measure in fraction when a calculator gives you decimal. Let's say you have a wheelbase of 116 and divide by 25 and you 4.62" How do you measure .62 in fractions. I hate fraction and get rid of the as soon as possible.

So, here's today's photo. "It's Putty Time". I added some .5x.5mm strips around the windows for a little detail since the last photo. bob Attachments:

I reset the trunk and backlight. I hated to do it and just let it set around until I couldn't stand looking at it anymore and got out the saw. I cut out a wedge (or V) shaped cut. I based the new position on a book I had on the classic American cars. I've been rotating several kit bashes and also my Little people project. All these projects are at my photo site. I also started yet another project I call the 1957 Cadillac Le Mans. It's based on the 1953 Le Mans Motorama Show car but using a '57 Eldorado Brougham as a base kit. Hope to make it a retractable! Take a look at the Barris custom based on that Motorama car. I don't mind him cutting up a Merc or two but why these incredibly rare concepts like the '55 Futura ?? JEEZ !!! I secretly like the Barris custom especially the tipped continental, is this another project to start??? my.inbox.com/photos/sifferd There, that's off my chest now.
