Please do not ask me why, because I don't know it either. But for some odd reason, I believe the newer models do not capture the lines of certain cars as good as the older ones did. Case in point, I find that the Revellogram 59 Impala, albeit excellently detailed, looks 'wrong' when assembled. The original SMP/AMT issue just seems to cature the 'mood' better, imho. Hence I went and got me this brush-painted beauty off Ebay: After careful disassembly: I stripped the paint and what was left of the 'chrome': As you can see, the body is easily restorable. There is no damage to the windscreen frame and glueing on the spats has not damaged any moldings. The plan is now to use the underpinnings and most chrome of an AMT '59 ElCamino and try to adapt the interior pieces from a Revellogram '59 Convert.

Very cool project and it cleaned up very well. Are the red swirls on the stripped chrome parts in the plastic? Very interesting.

Yes, the chrome parts are made from a pink swirly plastic.

I will be looking for the build progress of this impy.
Marc, when the chrome has different colored swirls in the plastic, that means it was an old release, mostly from the 60's. Johan was good for doing that also.
