i figure "what the hell"......another update. i am in the last stages of this build actually, but i have no headlights. there are some on the way though ;D you know them chrome Buick finned drums that came in the old 3n1 kits by AMT? you only got one in the kit, to have the "wheel off" look for show. i have some sitting here and using them for the front. i am using Modelhaus tires, old molded in red steel rims with the Olds caps on them. the Modelhaus tires are narrow and the wheel back doesn't need to be very deep, but in order for the "drum" to fit in there and look good, i needed a thin rim front edge to use. the drum is too large in diameter for most of the backs i tried. luckily the AMT '55 chevy kit had the right thickness of steel wheels i could cut the rim from. i drilled the center of the rim out, chucked to my dremel and used my older cheapo testors blade to do the cutting. simply turned the dremel on and held steady with the blade until i got through! here is what it looks like.. see how there is a slight gap? looks like it should. now the back of the rim needs to be painted to match rim. the "axle stub" will get cut down to the back side so that the wheels don't stick way out and with the axle plates will fit against and fill the gap on the drum. just thought someone might get use of this.
