Surprises me how at a number of model e-clubs things have declined in the last year. I feel in some areas either due to the growing number of new "clubs" on line and/or the general decline as baby boomers age out of building as health issues (eyesight largely) and family situations make for less free time, all that causes the loss in interest. Oddly, some "specialty" clubs and a few that expanded to take in other forms of models, sci-fi, military, ships, figures seem to be holding onto members. I can only sincerely hope this and other forums remain as inspiration to those who find these fine organizations of friendly builders.

I've noticed a trend on some of the forums that start to cool.
The forum owner gets busy or slows his posts, members slow down on posting comments, members cut down on posting new builds, posts get to be 6+ months old (then years) and comments finally pretty much stop. Members go away and guests just stop by to see what is there and don't return after they have seen the posts.
I am seeing that trend on one of the current sites I enjoy. The owner is active, but new build posts are only getting 3-4 comments, some 0. So it is starting to get stale. One of my favorite sites almost died but, the owner started posting new builds and explained to members he had been away. He then thanked those members that had stuck with the site, asked every one to start posting models and really made a pitch for comments on the builds.
It worked. The site is interactive again and very enjoyable. IMHO The interaction is the key.
My site is a forum. It does not require comments, it is just a place to go and look at my model collection. As such there is no interaction and the daily users are smaller, 20-60 per day. That is ok with me, because that is what I expected. However, I now post new content weekly or bi-weekly to help keep visitors coming back.
