I have had this for a long time and now I am going to clean it up and do a bit of detailing. What is it and who made it? The decals on it say it is a SCARAB. I have spent hours on the Internet and I can't find it. Scarab did build a rear engine car, but it has some major differences. Monogram made a kit of a rear engine Scarab but, it is more like the real one I found images of. It is old, has a simple chassis and may have originally been a slot car and model kit. Anyone know who made this one and where I can get some more information? Thanks!! Robert

No idears on who or when. Like someone said elsewhere, kinda looks all Ferrari/Porsche-ish to my eyes. Make for a killer project though ;D

Robert, Scarab was just a body maker who built the chassis, the engines were WHATEVER the owner of the chassis wanted to run in it. Those cars were VERY popular in the old Can-Am series, along with the Lola's ( My FAVORITE Can -AM car) Mc Larens and other small shop designed cars. It does LOOK like a Scarab, Kinda like a Lola too, but the ADDED scoops on the quarter panels, OVER the scoops ALREADY designed into the body there, threw me off. I would stick with the Mc Laren marque, but look for OTHER variations, or Mark numbers. you'll probably find a few more unknowns!!! Hope this helps.

Robert, I just went downstairs to check, an I'll be danged, it SURE LOOKS like a Lola!!! AND I'll bet money it IS!!!! it IS a Variatin of the original Lola body, but modded as they were by the various owners. But it IS a Mecum Lola T-70, year about 1966! Someone just put the scarab deca on it. I have 4 Lola kits by the original makers, IMC. Union Toys, out of Japan, got the old IMC molds and repopped it, and the 427 Cobra and the Chapparal kit that IMC molded. It IS a nice kit, and like I said, Lolas are my FAVORITE Can-Am series car!!!

Thank you for the info!! I will get on the internet this weekend and do more surfing for the Lola. The scoops on the rear fenders and the open radiator area on the front are really throwing me!!! Robert

The scoops on the UPPER quarters were added, the hood, the panel BETWEEN the front fenders is missing. But that's a Lola all right!

FOUND IT!!! It is AMT's version of the Lola T70. Thank y'all for the tips and directions to search, I would have never found it as a Lola. George53 was absolutely right, it was a Lola. I found a picture of the slot car version on the Los Angeles Slot Car Museum site. The rear side scoops and open hood are a feature of the kit. The 2 outside cutouts on the rear deck of the slot kit are not on my body, so I figure my body is from the model kit. Just a small difference. I will soak the SCARAB decals off and detail the kit out. Love it!! Robert

COOL Robert. The Lola's were my FAVORITE Can Am car! I've got about 4 of the IMC kits an a Lola T-70 Coupe, from R&D unique, before they went out of buisness. Those cars(the coupes) were ALSO used in the George Lucas movie "THX 1138" as the "New Orders" Police cars!!!

Noooooo.......Don't tell me about the coupe kits, I'll have to try and find one. I am seriously afflicted with collecting...I need a coupe to go with this one. If one is good more are better...I need a police car version, oh and I will have to have a version of a real racer, from each year and with different drivers....
See what you have started...............
Seriously, thank you for your help!!!! I do see more of these kits in my future. I just can't help myself.

Robert, in case you DIDN'T know, Tamiya JUST re released their 1/12 scale 66 Lola T-70 COUPE. It's listed at about 200.00 bucks. I have an original issue, from about 20/25 years ago. It's BEAUTIFUL, and it's about as close as you'll EVER come to building a REAL one. You should do yourself a favor an check one out, you'll be VERY impressed! ;D
