ok first I was thinking about doing an el camino roadster, but really wanted a convertible cruiser. Here is where I am and this thing seems to be on a roll, so might get done very soon! Am talking to my buddy Dave Neighbors right now and he just so happens to have.... interior tub, glass, boot and maybe bumpers with new chrome too. this is gonna be easier than I thought , just a little work to get the body fixed up. I didn't really know what way to go yet, so I might have made an extra cut that was not needed....but it's ok because I can fix what ever it may be. Kenny Shores aka Bandit Resins sent me a "reject" body to cut up. quarter panels are mucked on the SMP body, so they have to go. was thinking about this..... but i want convertible, so let the cutting, filling and sanding begin!

got the interior tub which is a '59, the vert boot and a better rear bumper tonight from Dave. This will be interesting I think. A '60 Impala convertible with El Camino trim, '59 Impala interior patterns? Call it mix and match...or mild kustom? Whatever , the whole car will be mild for sure.

got the 59 interior tub stripped, but duh...I forgot the body was painted with lacquer and wasted the whole night in CSC when it should have been in alcohol. here shown is the '59 tub, skirts won't be used again for this build but stripped them and the front valance which will need a little work to remove glue and fix a break.

Looks impossible doesn't it? I don't believe in that word.... I didn't take pics of every little thing, but there was already a lot of sanding, cutting and mending to get this far. The front and rear halves are NOT attached yet, but the quarters are. Looking at the tops of them quarters, I can tell it's going to be fun but it will get done!

mock/building to see what's what. I will have some filling to do , no doubt! overall profile looks good to me. skirts have to be shaped to fit and the stance is NOT set. The convertible boot sits fine with the interior tub, but it's too long towards the back and is over the trunk edge. It's not like that on a real one, but this is a prehistoric model so I might just let it go and deal with it.

Something you might concider doing, Bob, is rescribing the leading edge of the trunk lid. Just a thought. Alex
