1. I have a routine of visiting 6 different model sites. Each site has a little different focus. I enjoy them all! Lately the sites have been slow or to my sadness some are closing.
Well, may I suggest that the lurkers post a little more. I have been a lurker and not posted comments or builds. Now I have started to post builds and leave comments about models. It has increased the enjoyment of the sites. Just leaving a comment on a build is rewarding because it makes me feel like I have helped support a fellow builder.
2. Next, I would like to comment about posting your builds. It is great! I am not a skilled builder. I deal with some things that make it harder and sometimes just can't do the fine work to make a model stand out. That is OK!! All of the builds I see online help me to enjoy the hobby and posting makes me feel like my hobby has value to others as well as me.
So....give posting a try.
3. Finally, I don't post or participate in the group or club builds and contests. I was a contest builder in the 1980s and got tired of it. The trophies just collected dust and the reward ended for me. Now I will just build or restore for fun and to increase the collection. (I am a collector, I do models and die cast and I am OK with just detailing a nice die cast or model that someone else built.)
My point...enjoy these sites, participate so the owner thinks they are worth his time to keep going, open yourself up to exploring how the sites can help your modeling experience, and above all ENJOY!
You will see this same post on my three favorite sites. Forgive me for being long winded.
